Completely detached from the ground

As part of the redesigning of the Uferpark in Chemnitz, we created an aesthetically and structurally fascinating project in collaboration with the Magdeburg office of lohrer.hochrein landscape architects. A rope net with an irregular-shaped ground plan, anchored down only on the outside and floating freely on the interior. Is that even structurally possible? "We knew what we were letting ourselves in for when we took up this challenge", says Andreas Aschmann, head of the technical division at Corocord Raumnetz GmbH, "so we’re all the more proud to have found the perfect solution for the structural requirements so quickly."

We had come to the attention of the landscape architects in charge of the planning of the park in Chemnitz back in 2005: "We got to know the Spacenet Inventors of Corocord at the Federal Garden Show in Munich, where they presented their fascinating 'UFO' project. We knew straight away: we have to work together with them at some point", says Ursula Hochrein, co-partner of lohrer.hochrein. This intention became concrete when the idea of a free-floating play net for the Chemnitz project emerged . Hochrein is confident: "There are only a few companies who could take on such a task. But we immediately thought of Corocord – and the results have more than justified that."

A unique piece of play equipment has arisen in Chemnitz, with a glowing orange centre point just asking to be conquered. Whether crawling on all fours or balancing upright: since autumn 2008, both young and old have taken great enjoyment in finding their very own way across the floating rope net and to the centre.
