Fishing Net at the airport fires the imagination of young captains

Where aeroplanes once took off for the sky, now a fascinating rope play landscape is causing children’s imagination to take off. In the course of the restructuring of the site of the former Munich-Riem airport, a new housing development with a play area has been built. The "Riem Fishing Net", with its four-metre high solid crow’s nest offers a climbing challenge and an adventure not just for young (sea) captains.

A rope net suspended between tall, slanting masts – this is the basic design for the Large and Small Fishing Net. As if fishermen had just hung their nets out to dry, the nautical rope play equipment invites people to climb it. And we are constantly developing this idea. For example with the "Riem Fishing Net" which came about in autumn 2008 in collaboration with the lohrer.hochrein landscape architects’ office in Munich.

With this project, the four-metre high crow’s nest immediately catches the eye, transforming the tensioning ropes into the virtual rigging of a ship. Those who make it to the top through the Climbing Funnel are rewarded with a heavenly view over the spacious new housing development. Together with the slanting climbing membranes and ropes, and the tight meshed rope nets, we created a unique piece of nautical rope play equipment.
