Urban sculpture of ropes and ideas
Double arches conjuring up the idea of a suspension bridge and its reflection: thus the “climbable net” of the "Art and Architecture project in Alt Köpenick“ (KAiAK) has swayed in the skies over Berlin since 2007. Corocord created the climbing equipment based on an idea by NL Architects in just four months. We are proud of the result as Corocord has succeeded in realising the sculpture, which was planned as a statically free-standing object as one that is both accessible and climbable. Successful realisation of such an ambitious project requires wide-ranging experience and expertise. The limited amount of time available was an additional challenge for our Berlin rope specialists.
Topography created from nets
Steel ropes, steel frames with special upholstery and four pylons make up the load-bearing structure of the climbing landscape. We have added horizontal and vertical net elements creating a widely varied topography. It offers ever-changing ways of exploring the net and invites to discover the three-dimensional landscape. Children and adults alike are fascinated by this magnificent net bridge. Users of all ages explore the gently swinging paths, feel their way towards comfortable resting places and lofty lookout points.
Stable structure, and also reversible
The climbable net is planned as an urban sculpture taking the environment into consideration; i.e. it is a temporary structure and can be reversed in its entirety. This becomes possible by its special structural design, allowing the horizontal forces to be entirely taken up by the pylons placed into the ground diagonally. The adjacent buildings are not at all affected by the installation.
