Paths between the tree canopies

We were particularly interested in the old trees when Corocord began the process of realising a new play area at the Ketteler Hof recreation park near the German town of Haltern am See. Our aim was to preserve the character of the beech wood with its bright, green light and enhance it by a rope playscape.

Organic structure

The designer Günter Beltzig has come up with an ingenious solution: the Corocord Sky Bridges connect individual metal pylons, thereby creating a floating network of paths that is well adapted to its sensitive surroundings. Its organic structure ensures that the play facility high up in the woods blends in with the backdrop of the trees harmoniously. Nevertheless, the rope tunnels, the Sky Cabins and the pylons all keep the necessary distance to the tree trunks.

Voyagers between the worlds

In the 70 metres long system of rope tunnels, children become voyagers between the worlds on the ground and up in the treetops. The Sky Bridges take the adventurers across exciting landscapes high up among the beech trees. The closely meshed sides and floor of the rope tunnel ensure a safe journey while also still permitting views in all directions.

A slide is the reward

The beginning and end of the tunnels are the Sky Cabins at the top of the pylons. This is also where the climbing nets that ascend from ground level lead into the rope tunnel net. Small houses made of rope, steel and membranes have been placed at these points and serve as meeting points, places to rest, lookouts and starting points for the slide back down to the ground. Hurtling through one of these tubes is the reward at the Ketteler Hof recreation park for the arduous climb up to this world of play and discovery.
