News: Makeover for the Super Four Mast Spacenet in Düsseldorf
The Spacenet conquers the public domain
For the occasion of the International Garden Show (IGA) in Hamburg in 1973, our company founder, the architect Conrad Roland, introduced the first Play Spacenet to the public domain. From there the Spacenet began its trail of success and since then, playgrounds, parks and urban areas would be unthinkable without it.
The Spacenet Inventors at Corocord have continually developed new variants and combinations ever since, and so over the years, a whole product range has arisen: the Spacenet family.
The rope specialists at Corocord built the superlative in 1987 for the Südpark, in the grounds of the Federal Garden Show in Düsseldorf. Here, the world’s largest Spacenet to date came into existence, the Super Four Mast Spacenet. Its dimensions are truly world champion: at a height of over 11 metres, using nearly 7 kilometres of rope and with a base area of approximately 3,000 m², this facility offers a gigantic play area for exciting climbing adventures.
It has long since been of age – but hasn’t got old
It’s down to the high quality of the materials used and the high entertainment value of our products that the Super Spacenet in Düsseldorf is still in use in the new millennium. And this even though the equipment now has over twenty years ‘under its belt’. Isn’t it funny to think that today, it could be the children of the climbers from the eighties letting off steam on the very same piece of play equipment?
Pit stop for the Spacenet: Change the ropes, please
After over twenty years, even ropes with particular protection against abrasion start to get a little worse for wear – this is certainly not down to a lack of quality, but simply the ravages of time and a sign of particularly intensive use. Therefore, as part of the ‘facelift’ for the entire Südpark, ordered last year by the Düsseldorf park authorities, our Super Four Mast Spacenet also underwent a makeover. The edge ropes, which hold in place the rope octahedrons suspended on the interior, were replaced by the experienced Corocord maintenance team. For the interior structure of the equipment, only individual rope rings had to be replaced. The fact that such a refurbishment can be carried out with comparably little time and effort is thanks to the well thought-out, clear construction, which can be traced back to Conrad Roland and which is a feature of all our play equipment.
The re-fitted equipment now shines in new splendor, and the young park visitors once again use it with great enjoyment. And there is hardly any doubt that twenty years from now, the Super Four Mast Spacenet on the Stoffeler Kapellenweg will still be a special attraction.
With the invention of the Play Spacenet at the start of the seventies, a unique company history began – and we still feel as committed as ever to our company founder’s high demands of quality and design.
