News: New Lynn’s Olympic Park in Waitakere, New Zealand

New Zealand’s Prime Minister Helen Clark takes the floor!

With a celebratory speech New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark officially opened New Lynn’s Olympic Park in Waitakere in the middle of April 2008. The backdrop to this exciting occasion was given by the silhouette of our Large Spacenet Combination, a rope play equipment with a floor space of over 300 square meters. Like all our products, the Large Spacenet Combination was made by hand in our Berlin spacenet manufactory. Many of our play equipment products have already made the long journey to the other side of the globe. We are especially pleased to note that this Spacenet Combination – one of our most popular and most highly flexible models – was the 30th piece of playground equipment we have shipped to New Zealand.

Olympic ideas transformed into play equipment

Back in the early 20th century New Lynn’s Olympic Park was home to a host of attractions for sporting activities and fun and games. By the end of the century, however, it had deteriorated into an overgrown BMX racing track. The past few years have seen increased efforts to return it to its former glory. Today new life has been breathed into the Olympic spirit of the Park in the form of innovative play equipment, sports facilities and cultural and social amenities which restore the Park to its original purpose. One of the factors behind this proud achievement has been the support of Playground People Ltd, our distribution partner, which successfully drove forward the integration of our Spacenet Combination. This wide-area climbing net offers children a wealth of play possibilities and is specially designed to develop their physical skills and encourage them to overcome their own limits.
The people of Waitakere are very enthusiastic about the new amenities offered by New Lynn’s Olympic Park. At the same time the Waitakere town council has taken the redevelopment of the park as an opportunity to implement its forward looking eco-city vision. Recognition of the town’s dedicated efforts to rescue the park came in 2007 when Waitakere won the Outstanding Park Award bestowed by the New Zealand Recreation Association (NZRA) – a worthy honour for all its concerted efforts over the past six years.

On your marks, get set, go! Green light for the climbing net

Our Large Two Mast Spacenet Combination is the main eye-catcher and focal point in the newly designed park. For children it marks the start of an exciting voyage of discovery through the extensive state-of-the-art play area. The two long masts of different heights reaching up to the sky are an invitation to climb and enjoy the marvellous panoramic views over the whole park given from their tops. When reaching the top every successful climber can feel like a king or queen proudly surveying their lands from the top of the castle tower. Climbing through the Two Mast Spacenet means the children also negotiate the suspension bridge area which links up the two Spacenets and enables them to climb from mast to mast. This often makes the Spacenet the scene of exciting climbing competitions between various children.
